In this session, we will discuss what governance in the project economy is, and how it works together with understanding and influencing the various stakeholder types. For a project, there is internal governance concerned about the structure internal to the project, it’s teams and maybe subcontractors. But there also is external governance, like program management, a portfolio board or just a steering committee, that govern and influence the project itself. External governance is concerned with the strategic and business environment in which a project exists and is expected be successful.

Besides understanding project governance, which manifests itself in the project processes, roles and their interdependencies, it is important to align the governance with the human network of stakeholders with their attitudes, skills and relationships. As project managers we must select the right people to fill the roles in the organizational chart and strive to build a team internally and as well influence stakeholders outside the project. We will see some aspects how to deal with the interdependence of governance and human networks.
