Event Description:

Construction and building design projects can be initiated for many reasons whether it be a need to update or upgrade facilities, accommodate students at a university, upgrade or expand manufacturing, economic opportunity, modernization, infrastructure deterioration, replacement, emergencies, disasters, etc. It begins with a customer, either solely or jointly with consultants developing the program and scope of work to be performed, then soliciting or engaging design teams to assist with the design development.
Once a concept or design is under way the customer will solicit either construction management or construction services. The approach is driven by private customer policies or public works requirements all that are set forth to follow industry standards and primary utilization, in many cases of documents published by the AIA (American Institute of Architects). This topic will go through many of the steps through the construction engagement, safety, pre-planning, estimating, procurement, logistics, sequencing, coordination, documentation.
The goal for construction industry projects is to have a satisfied customer, successfully completed project suitable for intended use, on time, under budget and of the highest quality possible.

Learning Objectives:

To gain an understanding of the construction and building design industry processes from initiation to completion and some of the activities required for properly managing the processes.
