Academic Grant Winner 2021


We are happy to announce our Academic Grant’21 Winner: Wendy Ross!

Wendy Ross is a PMP certified project manager who was the inaugural Director of PMI Rochester's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program; she served in that role for 3.5 years. Wendy is earning a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Executive Leadership with a dissertation focus on leading diverse project teams with equity and inclusion. 

The PMI Rochester Academic Grant will go towards DEXL-709 Public & Human Relations course provided by St. John Fisher College. DEXL-709 will increase Wendy's leadership acumen and fulfill 3 credits of her doctoral studies requirements. This course examines public and human relations in the context of various private and non-profit organizations using a case study method. Students will examine the potential use of public and human relation strategies to improve connections between education and healthcare, social services, business, and other public and human service sectors. The course will also expose students to effective leadership strategies and best practices designed to improve organizational performance. Topics will include internal and external communications; partnerships with diverse organizations and audiences; strategic planning and marketing communications; crisis communication and management; media and public relations; public imaging; creative leadership; and public relations research and evaluation.

Professional Development Grant Winner 2021


Zachary Sweet is a Technical Product Manager at Jack Henry, a Financial Technology company which provides software and payment solutions to over 9000 financial institutions. He is a 2017 RIT graduate with a BS in Management Information Systems and also holds his Project Management Professional (PMP) and the PMI micro-credential Agile Hybrid Project Pro. Zac volunteers for PMI Rochester as the Director of Technology and previously served as the VP of Marketing and Communications. He believes that the art and science of project management is an incredible foundation for any role, in any industry. Zac is highly motivated and passionate about process improvement and is driven by technology. He enjoys how his MIS degree has helped him view business through a different lens - bridging the gap between technology and business. He is looking forward to taking these two courses "Organizational Transformation: Foundation" and "Business Execution and Organizational Influence" provided by PMI where he will learn about empowering leaders and creating a culture that supports transformation and earn his micro-credential in Organization Transformation.
