The PMI Rochester Professional Development Day provides attendees with a unique opportunity to acquire new and leading edge information regarding the latest developments in project management theory, application and tools.

Project Management is rapidly evolving from a set of skills to a profession, accompanied by the development of sophisticated and progressive concepts.

Meet The PDD Speakers  
 

  Jack Bacon

Jack Bacon has often been called "A New Carl Sagan." He is an internationally-known motivational speaker, a distinguished lecturer (emeritus) of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and one of the most requested speakers in the country for topics concerning technology and the factors that shape human society. A noted futurist and a technological historian, he has written three popular books on the pace of technology and society. His lectures have captivated tens of thousands of all ages in thirty countries on six continents, and he has appeared on numerous radio and television broadcasts and documentaries. In his daily work, he is on the management team overseeing the construction and operation of the most complicated technical project in history: the International Space Station. 

A graduate of Caltech (B.S. '76) and the University of Rochester (Ph.D.'84) his extensive career includes roles in the development of many cutting edge technologies, including controlled thermonuclear fusion, the development of the electronic office, factory automation, and the globalization of business. He pioneered the deployment of several artificial intelligence systems, learning his craft at the famed Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.

He was the United States' lead systems integrator of the "Zarya"-the jointly-built spacecraft that forms the central bridge and adapter between all US and Russian technologies on the Space Station. This landmark in technological history was built in Moscow by American and Russian engineers and launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in November 1998.

Jack is a fellow of the Explorer's Club, a member of the AIAA and of the National Speakers Association, and was a founding member of the board of directors of the Science National Honor Society (www.ScienceNHS.org). Among his numerous awards, he is a recipient of NASA's Exceptional Achievement Medal, the Director's Special Commendation, and the coveted Silver Snoopy award-the only award to fly in space. He routinely advises numerous academic programs and institutions, and he is a champion of education throughout the world. Jack lives in Houston.

Paul F. Bosakowski PMP

A graduate Civil Engineer, Mr. Bosakowski is a principal of Sigma Associates; a professional firm which provides project management consulting and training to individuals and companies engaged in the delivery of products and services globally.  He is retired from the Fluor Corporation, where he participated in the execution of projects in the petrochemical, mining, energy and other industries globally.  Execution of projects included all phases of execution from proposal preparation and initiation to project completion, as well as supervisory, audit and people development roles around the world.   Mr. Bosakowski has also had lead project management roles at other companies engaged in energy generation, oil and gas production, nuclear power generation, aerospace and government projects.  He also taught at Stanford and Clemson Universities in the graduate and undergraduate divisions, and participated in the preparation and review of the initial Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) for the Project Management Institute.

  Terry Doerscher

Terry Doerscher has over 26 years of practical experience with process and PMO development, strategic planning, and project, work & resource management in nuclear, engineering, and IT fields.  Mr. Doerscher’s business consulting background, combined with many years of real-world management experience, makes him a trusted advisor to many Planview customers.                              

Terry is a primary author and passionate evangelist for the Planview approach to integrated business management.  As the motive force behind Planview PRISMS™ Adaptive Business Processes and Best Practices, and the acclaimed PMO 2.0 series, he is influential in maintaining Planview positioned as an industry-leading innovator among portfolio management products.

Both a published expert and experienced presenter, Terry’s expertise, along with his candid and engaging presentation style makes him a sought after speaker.

Susan Houston

Susan Houston is the Chief of the Project Management Office at the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center. Her background includes over 15 years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine and over 10 years of project management and nursing informatics. She is the 2008 President of the PMI Healthcare Specific Interest Group and the co-author of the book, ‘Project Management for Healthcare Informatics’. She teaches IT Project Management for the Masters of Nursing Informatics program at the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing and she is board certified in project management and nursing informatics.

  Lisa DiTullio

As director of the project management office (PMO) at Boston-based Harvard Pilfrim Health Care, she’s a core member of the turnaround team for an organization that went from being placed in State-supervised receivership in 1999 to being the #1 Health Plan in America’s Best Health Plans three years in a row and the Highest Rated Plan in the Northeast for member satisfaction according to JD Power and Associates 2007 National Health Insurance Plan satisfaction Study.

Today, Lisa’s a leading force in project management – both within Harvard Pilgrim and in the project management field. She is editor of ProjectBestPractices, a quarterly newsletter from ProjectWorld, and a contributor to PM Netowrk Magazine. She is also the author of Simple Solutions: How “Enterprise Project Management” Supported Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Journey from Near Collapse to #1.

Edithe Drewery-Brown

Edithe Drewery-Brown has been a certified project management professional since 1996 in the field of business and information systems.  For the past 20 years Edithe has led many information systems, applications development and infrastructure deployment projects and programs.  Additionally, Edithe has built and managed several PMO organizations designing, developing and implementing global standards within organizations for project management and systems development. Edithe has also been involved in Six Sigma projects and has received her Masters Certificate as a Six Sigma Black Belt. 

In addition to her professional pursuits, Edithe is currently pursuing her PhD in Business and Organizational Management, with specializations in Information Systems and Project Management. 

Edithe also devotes time to her family and to the not-for-profit organization, PM4Life,Inc.  PM4Life,Inc., is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing the knowledge of the project management discipline to elementary, middle,high school, and college students as well as to individuals and organizations that are not normally exposed to the discipline of project management. 

Edithe is married with five children.  She and her family live in Mount Morris, New York on a 70-acre farm.

Romanda Gibson-Stevenson

Romanda Gibson-Stevenson serves as a Project Coordinator consultant for Computer Task Group, Inc.  Over the past ten years, Gibson-Stevenson has used her project management skills to enhance the health care agencies and human service organizations.

Romanda has been employed by Gibson-Stevenson, also co-founded Samaritan Women, Inc, a not-for-profit organization which serves women and their children who are in various stages of crisis.

In addition to her professional pursuits, she volunteers with numerous community organizations, including the City of Rochester’s Summer of Opportunity Program, Genesee Community Charter School, and the Rochester Children’s Zone. 

Romanda has a Masters Degree in Organizational Management from Roberts Wesleyan College, and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from SUNY Brockport. She resides in Rochester, NY with her husband and their two beautiful daughters.

  Steven L. Wilson, PMP

Steven Wilson is certified as a Project Management Professional® (PMP) with over 12 years experience in leading projects and building solutions. Over the last ten years at Electronic Data Systems, Steven has demonstrated success in managing programs, multiple projects and project teams.  Steven also brings considerable business experience and best practice processes to every opportunity with his personal style, motivation, leadership, passion and ability to build rapport across a wide range of stakeholders.

Currently, as a Global programme manager he is responsible for programme operations and oversight of over a two dozen integrated projects within the Measures and Value Management (MVM) program in a virtual global team. Responsible to develop, implement and manage MVM program office as well as five project managers each manage a functional area with multiple initiatives – Functional areas include – Metric design and development, data analysis and design, research and standards, estimating and sizing and maintain and sustain. He provides oversight, mentoring and coaching of all project leaders to meet and maintain all activities to ensure that all project commitments are identified in the scope of work while meeting all deliverables.

Steven is a professionally trained and practicing Transformational Leadership Coach currently coaching clients in the US, Canada and the UK on personal, professional, and organizational leadership. He is accepting new clients internally and externally to EDS.

Steven, Vice President and co-owner of Journey Consulting has authored and delivered Project Management Professional® (PMP®) certification training to over 250 individuals representing over 25 companies in the Upstate New York area, Michigan and the UK.  His metrics and methods have proven that 99% of his training participants who have taken the test have successfully passed and received their PMP® certification.

Steven also speaks and teaches at Project Management Institute (PMI) conferences, dinners and workshops. His previous topics have included team dynamics, leadership skills, and practical instruction in both the tactical and strategic areas of the Project Management discipline. He has spoken in Rochester, NY; Syracuse, NY; Lansing, MI; Auburn Hills, MI; Kansas City, MO; and Frankfort, Germany and is booking speaking engagements for 2008 and 2009.

  Lothar Katz

Lothar Katz  is an advisor in the field of international business and project management, and the founder of cross-cultural consultancy Leadership Crossroads in Dallas, TX.  He has a wealth of experience in achieving productive cooperation across cultures and driving business success on a global scale, having helped many large and small companies and other organizations grow their global competence and international business. 

A former Vice President and General Manager with Texas Instruments, a Fortune 200 corporation, Mr. Katz has led distributed product development organizations across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and served in project management roles ranging from individual project team member to executive sponsor. He regularly interacted with employees, customers, outsourcing vendors, and third parties in numerous countries.

Mr. Katz is the author of “Negotiating International Business – The Negotiator’s Reference Guide to 50 Countries Around the World,” a faculty member with the Project Management Program at the University of Texas at Dallas’ School of Management, and a Business Leadership Center instructor at the Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business. Together with his partner, Dr. Sue Freedman, he co-developed and frequently co-instructs a series of workshops on “Managing Projects Across Borders.” He is a member of the Project Management Institute and has spoken at a number of its events.

  Michele Mills, PMP

Manager, Project Management Office, University of Utah -- University Health Care, Salt Lake City, Utah

Having spent most of her professional career in the healthcare industry, Michele Mills has worked at University Health Care, a division of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, since 1993. Her duties include managing an IT Project Management Office, handling a wide variety of projects ranging from new building construction to public internet access projects for patients, patient families, and visitors. She has also been involved in many volunteer efforts over the years, including PTA President, PTA Regional Leadership Vice-President, and intern for Utah State Legislature Majority Leader. During her tenure in state government, she helped the Utah Medical Association's president successfully move several difficult healthcare bills through the legislative process.

In 2007, Michele was the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Healthcare Specific Interest Group (SIG) President and is currently serving on the board as the Past-President. She is also serving on the Utah HIMSS board of directors as Director-at-Large for Project Management. She is a certified PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), and working on a Master's degree in Project Management from George Washington University.
